STATE : In a significant move to bolster medical education and healthcare services in Northeast India, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved an increase in the number of MBBS seats at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC). This decision is a crucial step towards addressing the growing demand for medical professionals in the region and improving healthcare accessibility.
The approval comes in response to the growing demand for medical education and healthcare services in Tripura and neighboring states. With the increase in seats, AGMC will now be able to accommodate more students, thereby enhancing the region’s capacity to produce qualified medical professionals. This move is expected to address the shortage of doctors and improve healthcare delivery in the area.
Taking to his social media handle, the Chief Minister posted “The National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted approval for Agartala Government Medical College to increase its MBBS intake capacity from 100 to 150 seats. This is a significant accomplishment, as it will provide more opportunities for aspiring medical students from our state to pursue their dream of becoming a doctor. This expansion of seats is expected to enhance access to healthcare services in the future. Our Government is committed to leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to improve the healthcare sector in the State”.
