NATIONAL: Starting June 4, 2024, Amul will implement a ₹2 per litre hike on its milk products nationwide. This change affects various types of milk, with full-cream milk now priced at ₹60 per litre in major cities like Ahmedabad, Delhi NCR, Kolkata, and Mumbai. Toned milk will cost ₹48 per litre in Ahmedabad and ₹50 per litre in other major metros.
The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets Amul, explained that the price hike is driven by increased costs of energy, packaging, logistics, and cattle feed. These rising input costs have necessitated the adjustment to sustain operations and ensure fair remuneration for milk producers. The federation highlighted that nearly 80 paise of every rupee spent by consumers goes directly to the farmers, underlining its commitment to supporting them.
This latest price revision aims to maintain remunerative prices for milk producers and encourage higher milk production. The GCMMF last increased milk prices in July 2023, making this the second hike in less than a year, reflecting ongoing pressures from inflation and increased production costs. (ANI)
