STATE: 15 relief camps have been opened as various areas of the state were flooded due to heavy rains under the influence of Remal. 746 people have taken shelter in these relief camps. Moreover, 467 houses have been damaged in the state due to the impact of Remal. Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury informed as he held a press conference at the Secretariat Tuesday.
In the press conference, the Food Minister said that the water level of various rivers has increased due to heavy rains in the state in the last two days. The Water Resources Department is monitoring the water levels of rivers and dams.
The Food Minister said that due to the impact of Remal, there has been extensive damage to agriculture and electricity in the state. The district administration and concerned departments are working continuously to carry out rescue and vital services. Immediate assistance is also being provided to the victims. He said that the average rainfall in the state was 215.5 mm in the last 24 hours. Unkoti district received a maximum rainfall of 252.4 mm and the South Tripura district received a minimum rainfall of 168 mm. The cyclone has caused extensive damage in the state.
Minister Chowdhury also said that necessary steps have already been taken in a meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary to deal with the situation arising due to Remal. Every district administration has been directed to take necessary measures. Various departments including SDRF, NDRF, Fire Service, State Administration, and Revenue Department are constantly working to deal with the situation.
Sushanta Chowdhury further stated that roads were blocked due to uprooted trees in many places and electricity services were disrupted. Administration officials are working tirelessly to normalize the situation.
