STATE: Cyclone Remal made landfall on the coast of Bangladesh and neighboring West Bengal around 11:30 pm on Sunday. Currently, it is located in Jessore, Bangladesh, which is 185 km southwest of Agartala. The cyclone is gradually weakening and moving north-northeastward and will weaken into a deep depression by this evening. This news was informed in a press release from the Revenue Department on Monday afternoon.
According to the press release, 40.73 mm of rain fell in Tripura from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm Monday due to the impact of this cyclone. West Tripura district recorded the highest rainfall. It received 59.5 mm of rain during this period, and the least rain was recorded in the North Tripura district. There has been 27 mm of rain during this period. Up to 3:30 pm, the highest number of gales was recorded in the Arundhatinagar area of West Tripura district. At this time, the wind speed of 53.7 kilometers per hour has been blowing.
According to the press release, no major damage has been reported from any district of the state except for the uprooting of trees and blockage of roads in some parts of the state due to the impact of Cyclone Remal. Disaster Management Team, SDRF, NDRF, trained Apda Mitra, and Civil Defense volunteers are engaged in clearing roads and continuing emergency services. In most cases, the roads were cleared within a few hours. Damage assessment is going on in many areas. The Meteorological Department has issued Red and orange alerts forecast for today and tomorrow. Isolated heavy rain and thundershowers are likely over the state.
According to the press release, the Emergency Operation Centers are working round the clock. Quick response teams of NDRF, SDRF, trained volunteers, and departments are actively working. A team of NDRF rushed to certain areas near the cyclonic zone as soon as the information was received. Important departments like electricity, health, education, transport, works, forest, food, and others are working in regular coordination with the district administration. Volunteers are always on alert to resolve any issues due to the cyclone. Hospitals and health sub-centers have been put on alert to provide necessary assistance. Relief and rehabilitation centers have been kept ready to provide shelter to those affected by the cyclone. The Secretary of the Revenue Department maintains regular contact with the District Magistrates and colleagues. The state government is prepared to deal with the situation arising out of the cyclone.
