STATE: Tripura is set to establish its first Deep Borewell Rescue Training Centre, a pioneering step to address the increasing incidents of humans and animals trapped in borewells. Dr. Sarat Kumar Das, State Project Officer for Disaster Management, revealed that the centre would be located at the 9th Battalion of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) camp in the South District. The facility will be developed following the guidelines from the Government of India.
The initiative, pending final government approval, aims to begin operations this year. The training will be conducted in three phases: the first phase will train TSR personnel, the second will focus on local youths from high-incidence areas, and the final phase will include volunteers and officials such as Fire Services and National Cadet Corps members.
Spearheaded by the Tripura Disaster Management Authority, this centre will significantly enhance the state’s emergency response capabilities, reflecting a strong commitment to improving disaster management and preparedness.
