NATIONAL/SPORTS: On Sunday, at the Asian Senior Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan top Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar created history by winning the gold medal in the women’s vault competition. In the esteemed tournament, the 30-year-old athlete became the first Indian to accomplish this achievement.
On the final day of the championships, Karmakar put on a tremendous show in the vault final, earning an average score of 13.566. She ascended to the top with an amazing demonstration of ability and accuracy.
North Korean competitors Kim Son Hyang and Jo Kyong Byol took home the silver and bronze medals, respectively. In the very tough competition, Kim Son Hyang received an average score of 13.466, while Jo Kyong Byol received an average of 12.966.
Dipa, who took home a bronze in the vault final at the 2015 Rio Olympics, had placed fourth in the same competition in 2015.
