NORTH EAST: The Tata Group is establishing a significant semiconductor manufacturing unit in Assam, marking a major milestone for the state. Announced by Ratan Tata, this ₹27,000 crore facility will produce 48 million chips daily. Tata emphasized that this project, supported by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, will position Assam prominently on the global technology map.
A key part of this initiative is the creation of a skill development center at the Jagiroad facility. This center will train local youth in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and electronics, ensuring they are well-prepared for jobs at the plant. Currently, 1,500 youths from Assam, mostly women, are being trained in Bangalore for future leadership roles when the plant becomes operational in 2025.
This project promises economic growth, increased employment, and technological advancement for Assam, making it a crucial hub for high-tech manufacturing.
