A bus carrying applicants for the recruitment exam of Tripura State Cooperative Bank (TSCB) in various centers of Assam met with an accident on Thursday morning, seriously injuring at least seven people. The young person from Tripura who was looking for work died there and then on the spot in the Dima Hasao district of North Cachar Hills of South Assam.
The victim, known as Deepraj Debbarma, is from the Dhalai district. He was traveling to Guwahati with thirty-five other people to take the online exam for various TSCB posts, which is scheduled to begin on Friday and last for three days. The wounded were taken to a nearby hospital.
The bus reportedly crashed on the road amid the morning’s intense rain, struck a road divider, and skidded off a drain. All of the job seekers boarded the bus late on Wednesday night, registered with Assam, and headed for Guwahati.
Applicants from Tripura are traveling to another state for the first time to take the recruitment exam for the positions of assistant manager, clerk, and support staff in the state’s thriving public sector bank. In addition to Agartala, the TSCB authorities contracted out the administration of the candidates’ online exams to centers located in Silchar, Guwahati, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, and Tezpur in Assam.
In order to make it easier for applicants to travel to Guwahati and back after the exam, the Tripura government has also established two special trains. The candidates for the Assistant Manager positions boarded the first train on Thursday morning. The next train is expected to arrive on Friday morning.
According to government regulations, over 19,000 applications were received for the 156 positions available in various categories. All of the applicants are Tripura permanent residents, but the state lacks the infrastructure to hold an online exam, so we had to hold the exam in different parts of Assam, a top TSCB official stated.
