STATE : Filmmaker Sujit Debbarma, hailing from Tripura, won the National Film Award for Best Anthropological Film for his documentary “Fire on Edge.”

At a recent ceremony in New Delhi, President Droupadi Murmu presented the award to Sujit Debbarma and the story’s writer, Pranab Jyoti Deka.

It has been learned from a media agency that Sujit Debbarma’s film is about the Tiwa people, a small indigenous community living in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam. The film explores their unique culture and traditions, as well as the challenges they face in the modern world.

From pre-production to post-production, he took five years to complete the movie. He collaborated extensively with the Tiwa community to make sure the movie was genuine and respectful.

The film has been screened at several film festivals around the world and praised for its sensitive and nuanced portrayal of the Tiwa people.
