On Thursday, the Lokmanya Tilak-Kamakhya Express train service began its journey from Agartala Railway Station. This express train will run between Agartala and Mumbai.

In the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha at Agartala railway station, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off the service of the express train through video conference.

Secondly, additional DEMU train services between Agartala and Sabroom and an escalator at Agartala railway station were also inaugurated.

On the occasion, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given special importance to the development of North-Eastern states after assuming office.

The Union Railway Minister also said that the Ministry of Railways has given priority to the rapid development of the railway communication system in the North Eastern region.

For this purpose, Rs 10, 270 crore have been kept in this year’s budget. Earlier, only 4 pairs of trains were plying from Tripura. Currently, 17 pairs of trains are running from Tripura. Not only that, plans are there to develop 60 stations in the North-East as world-class stations. Already, the work of 37 stations has been started, the Railway Minister said.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr) Manik Saha said that the people of Tripura have been demanding to extend the service of the Kamakhya-Lokmanya Tilak Express train to Agartala for a long time.

Keeping that demand in mind on the eve of this Puja, the Ministry of Railways has extended the service of Lokmanya Tilak-Kamakhya Express to Agartala. Also, one more DEMU train service between Agartala and Sabroom has been started today as per the approval of the Ministry of Railways.

This express train would take about 55 hours to travel from Lokmanya Tilak-Kamakhya Agartala to Mumbai. The train will leave Agartala for Mumbai every Thursday at 6 a.m. The train will reach Mumbai on Saturday afternoon. The train will leave Mumbai again on Sunday at 7:30 a.m. and will reach Agartala on Tuesday evening.

The extension of the Lokmanya Tilak-Kamakhya train will benefit the people of the North Eastern region, including Tripura and even Bangladesh, in terms of medical, education, and business, CM added.
