NATIONAL: As the G20 summit kicks off on Saturday in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered his inaugural speech at the G20 Summit representing ‘Bharat’ amid a name change row.
The country tag in front of Modi read ‘Bharat’ as he welcomed the world leaders and expressed grief over the Morocco earthquake.
“Before we start the proceedings of G20, I want to express my condolences over the loss of lives due to an earthquake in Morocco. We pray that all injured recover at the earliest. India is ready to offer all possible assistance to Morocco in this difficult time.” PM Modi addressed.
It was previously reported that the G20 dinner invitations from the President’s House also said “President of Bharat” rather than “President of India,” which fueled rumors that the Center could change the official state name from India to Bharat.
