Another daily DEMU train between Agartala and Sabroom is to be introduced by Indian Railways. Three DEMU trains were previously operating on this route. It was stated by Sushanta Chowdhury, during a press conference held on Thursday at the Secretariat.
The Ministry of Railways has approved the Northeast Frontier Railway’s proposal for the introduction of DEMU service daily.
Transport Minister said that considering the increase in the number of passengers, their needs, and convenience, a letter was recently sent to the Union Railway Minister requesting to increase the number of DEMU trains on this route.
It is in this context that the Union Ministry of Railways decided to run another DEMU train immediately for the convenience of the people of Tripura. The Transport Minister thanked the Union Railway Minister for this decision of the Ministry of Railways in the interest of the people of Tripura.
On the other hand, Sushanta Chowdhury, the Minister of Transportation, conveyed that the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport has been designated as a customs check post by the Union Finance Ministry. In keeping with this, a Gazette notification has also been published.
According to Minister Chowdhury, this announcement by the Union Finance Ministry is a positive step in launching the Agartala-Chittagong international air link.
The transport minister added that if, in the upcoming days, the MBB airport is placed under an immigration check post, flights between Agartala and Chittagong will begin shortly.
However, he expressed his hope that the issue of the immigration check post would be completed very soon.
