Fossilised Dinosaur Eggs Mistaken as Sacred Stones Discovered in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: A centuries-old tradition in Madhya Pradesh has taken a fascinating turn after palaeontologists revealed that stones long worshipped as sacred by villagers in Padlya are actually fossilised dinosaur eggs dating back nearly 70 million years.

For generations, locals revered the rounded stones as kuldevta (ancestral protective spirits), offering prayers and rituals. However, scientific studies have now confirmed that these objects are the fossilised remains of titanosaur eggs from the Late Cretaceous period.

The discovery has placed the Narmada Valley firmly on the global map as one of the world’s largest dinosaur nesting grounds. Researchers say the find provides important insights into the reproductive biology of titanosaurs, one of the largest dinosaur species to have roamed the Earth.

Experts believe the fossilised eggs not only shed light on how these giant creatures nested and reproduced but also help reconstruct the prehistoric environment of central India. The revelation underscores how layers of tradition and science can intertwine, transforming cultural practices into valuable windows into Earth’s deep past.
