Delhi Chief Minister has assured that the city will implement the Supreme Court’s directives on managing stray dogs in a systematic and planned manner.
The statement comes after the apex court, addressing the rising number of dog bite incidents, called the situation “extremely grim”. A bench comprising Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan issued a series of directions to tackle the issue, cautioning that any obstruction to their execution would invite strict action. The court also warned that willful interference could lead to contempt proceedings against individuals or organisations.
While acknowledging the seriousness of the problem, the Chief Minister emphasised that the government’s approach would be both humane and effective, balancing public safety with animal welfare. The administration is expected to coordinate with municipal bodies, veterinary departments, and resident welfare associations to ensure smooth implementation of the measures.
The Supreme Court’s order is seen as a significant step toward addressing the long-standing challenge of stray dog management in urban India, where population control, vaccination, and public awareness remain key to sustainable solutions.
