The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has allocated ₹32.30 crore to Tripura under the Khelo India Scheme, aimed at enhancing sports infrastructure in the state. The figures, released in the ministry’s state and UT-wise report, highlight significant disparities in funding across the northeastern region.
Arunachal Pradesh leads the Northeast with a substantial ₹148.91 crore — one of the highest allocations in the region. Manipur follows with ₹46.71 crore, Nagaland with ₹45.75 crore, and Assam with ₹43.68 crore. Tripura’s funding is slightly above Mizoram’s ₹31.73 crore and notably higher than Meghalaya’s ₹15.28 crore and Sikkim’s ₹24.64 crore.
On the national scale, Uttar Pradesh emerged as the top beneficiary with ₹438.27 crore, closely followed by Gujarat with ₹426.13 crore. Despite the Northeast’s strong sporting legacy and history of producing Olympians, most states in the region have received comparatively lower allocations.
The funding under the Khelo India initiative is designed to bolster grassroots and competitive sports infrastructure, with a focus on preparing athletes for upcoming global events such as the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Australia, and the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.
