In order to make the services of the transport department more public, a road map should be worked out because there is a difference between the transportation system of yesteryear and the transportation system of today. The transport department needs to work with new ideas to make the transport system faster and more modern. Transport Minister Sushant Chowdhury said these things in a review meeting of the Transport Department at Gitanjali guest house on Thursday.

At the review meeting, air, railways, roads, and waterways were all thoroughly discussed. Transport Minister Sushant Chowdhury stated during the review meeting that air service between Agartala and Chittagong would begin soon. Spicejet has got the responsibility. He said this government is the people’s government. The state government has taken the initiative to provide transportation facilities everywhere. Within a month, TRTC will begin operating peak buses. For female passengers, there will be a 30% discount.

In the meeting, the Transport Minister said that 3 heliports would be constructed at Matabari, Narkelkunj, and Vanghmun. For this, the department has to prepare DPR. The Government is thinking of modernizing the 52 motor stands in the state. More steps should be taken to prevent vehicular accidents. In the last financial year, the transport department collected a total revenue of Rs 115 crore 64 lakhs in various sectors. In the current financial year 2023-24, this department has a target of collecting revenue of Rs 121 crore 41 lakhs, Transport Minister added.

Secretary of Transport Department Uttam Kumar Chakma started the discussion through power point presentation in the meeting. He gave detailed information about air, rail, water, and road. Besides, Agartala Akhaura Railway, 9 Floating Terminals, Integrated Road Accident Data Base, Gomti River Navigability Enhancement, Institute of Driving, Training, and Research, Transport Commissionerate, Helicopter Service, Green Field Airport at Hirachra, Pre Paid Auto/Taxi Hire, Driving Training Center, Enforcement Drive, Inspection and Certification, TRTC Bus and Tripura Urban Transport Corporation Limited bus services.
