New Delhi – Paris Olympics medallist Aman Sehrawat will spearhead the Indian contingent at the upcoming World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb, following the conclusion of the men’s trials on expected lines. Alongside him, Budapest Ranking Series gold medallist Sujeet Kalkal (65 kg) and Tokyo Olympian Deepak Punia (92 kg) also secured their spots for the prestigious event.
Sehrawat, competing in the 57 kg category, had a dominant outing throughout the trials, facing little resistance on his way to victory. Despite appearing slightly rusty in his semifinal bout against Sumit—likely due to limited mat time since his Paris outing—Aman still registered a commanding 12-2 win. In the final, he returned to his aggressive best, overwhelming Rahul 11-0 with sharp leg attacks and clean takedowns.
In contrast, Sujeet Kalkal had a much tougher path to qualification. In the 65 kg final, he was pushed to the limit by Vishal Kaliraman, but managed to edge past him with a gritty performance that reflected both composure and resilience.
With the trials now complete, all eyes turn to Zagreb, where the Indian squad, led by some of the country’s top talents, will look to make a mark on the global stage.
