Bagbasa, North Tripura | July 22, 2025 — Fulfilling a major promise made in the run-up to the last assembly elections, a new Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) was officially inaugurated today in Bagbasa under the North Tripura district. The much-anticipated launch marks a significant milestone for education in the region.
The school, located temporarily on the premises of the Dharma Nagar Degree College student hostel, will begin with classes from Grade I to V. A total of 143 students have already been admitted, with 57 seats still available, maintaining the central government’s standard 40:1 student-teacher ratio.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including District Magistrate (North) Chandni Chandran, Bagbasa MLA Jadav Lal Debnath, ONGC representative Dharmendra Misra, KV Principal Pranab Sarkar, and local social activist Ranajay Deb.
Temporary Setup, Permanent Vision
Until the new school building is constructed, the KV will operate from its current temporary location. The teaching staff includes four regular teachers, three temporary teachers, and a principal, all of whom are prepared to commence the academic session.
While the inauguration reflected community enthusiasm, the event faced some criticism for poor logistical planning, with limited seating for guardians and media, and students having to stand throughout the ceremony.
Voices of Leadership and Determination
Despite the challenges, the launch event was filled with emotion and optimism.
DM Chandni Chandran, in her address, expressed her delight, “I’ve been in close coordination with MLA Jadav Lal Debnath to expedite the opening of this school. Seeing this come to life today brings immense joy.”
MLA Jadav Lal Debnath, who played a central role in bringing the school to Bagbasa, reflected on the struggle behind the scenes, “Many mocked me on social media for pushing for this school. Today, those promises—building a bridge for the college, opening a central school, and improving roads—are realities. But I’m not done yet. I promise to do much more in the next three years of my tenure.”
The event was inaugurated traditionally with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, symbolizing a new dawn for education in the region.
