A ‘Trans Tea Stall’ has been opened at Guwahati Railway Station on Friday. This initiative by NorthEast Frontier Railway is a first of its kind over the Indian Railways.

The tea stall will be fully managed by the transgender community the North East Frontier Railway said. It has been done with the active collaboration of the All Assam Transgender Association.

Anshul Gupta, General Manager of NorthEast Frontier Railway, inaugurated the ‘Trans Tea Stall’ at platform number 1 of Guwahati Railway Station on Friday.

The Government of India has approved a comprehensive empowerment scheme for Transgenders named “Support for Marginalised Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise” which includes a sub-scheme for Comprehensive Rehabilitation for the Welfare of Transgender Persons.

Northeast Frontier Railway plans to operate more such Trans Tea Stalls at Railway stations within the region.
