Tipra Motha Chief Urges ‘Bihar-Style’ Electoral Roll Revision in Tripura

Agartala – Tipra Motha leader Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has called on the Election Commission to revise electoral rolls in Tripura similar to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) being conducted in Bihar, ahead of Tripura’s 2028 Assembly elections.

Highlighting the need for transparency and inclusivity in the electoral process, Debbarma took to social media on Sunday, stating that a ‘Bihar model’ of voter list revision should be implemented in the Northeastern region, particularly in Tripura. He emphasized that the indigenous Tiprasa people and local officials should be included in the process.

Debbarma posted a photo of election officials in Bihar verifying voter details, stating:“The same exercise should be conducted in Northeast India—especially Tripura—and the officers must include our indigenous Tiprasa people/officers.”

While Tripura’s Assembly elections are scheduled for March 2028, the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) will hold its elections next year. Debbarma expressed disappointment over what he perceives as unequal treatment by the Election Commission.

“Why is Bihar prioritized while the Northeast is overlooked? Are we not equal citizens of India?” he questioned in a Facebook post. He further urged Tipra Motha MLAs to formally write to the EC requesting similar voter list revisions in Tripura.

He also called on people across the Northeast to demand equal electoral reforms from their respective regional parties:“I appeal to all my brothers and sisters across the Northeast to demand the same from your regional parties!”
