The Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) has taken strong exception to a prolonged delay in compensating families in Jampui Hills, North Tripura, whose land was acquired between June 2018 and February 2019 for the construction of National Highways 44A and 313.
Despite final compensation awards issued over seven years ago, landowners have yet to receive any payment—prompting severe hardship and frustration among the affected families. Official sources confirm that the acquisition process and formal notifications were completed, but the disbursement has inexplicably stalled.
Acting on multiple complaints, THRC Chairperson Justice A. Arindam Lodh criticized the delay as unjustified and in violation of provisions under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition Act. The Commission has now issued a notice to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL), demanding a detailed report by July 11.
Justice Lodh emphasized the urgent need to resolve the issue, stating the delay has caused undue suffering and legal complications for rightful claimants. THRC is pushing for immediate action to ensure justice is finally served.
