
The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with grandeur and patriotic zeal across Tripura, with the state-level function held at the Assam Rifles Ground in Agartala. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha unfurled the National Flag, inspected the parade, and took the salute at the ceremonial march-past. The event was graced by Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Pal, MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, DGP Anurag Dhankhar, and other dignitaries.
A special highlight of the programme was a vibrant cultural performance by students, who showcased their talent and patriotic spirit through song and dance. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister paid homage to the countless freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the nation’s independence. “Through the relentless and uncompromising struggle of millions, we broke the chains of British rule and earned our long-cherished freedom,” he said.
Dr. Saha also felicitated officers for their notable achievements and outlined the state government’s developmental initiatives across sectors. Echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign, he urged the people of Tripura to embrace indigenous products and work towards self-reliance. He further called upon the youth to dedicate their energy to building a Viksit Bharat and a New India.
The Chief Minister also invoked the bravery of India’s heroes, including the courage displayed during Operation Sindoor, inspiring the younger generation to channel their passion into nation-building.
Earlier in the day, floral tributes were offered at the Gandhi statue near Circuit House and the Shaheed Bedi (Martyrs’ Memorial) at Gandhi Ghat, attended by Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, Minister Ratan Lal Nath, and other leaders.
The patriotic spirit of the day resonated across political and civic institutions in the state. At the BJP State Headquarters, State President Rajib Bhattacharjee hoisted the tricolour in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Saha and party members. At the CPI(M) State Office, Opposition Leader Jitendra Chaudhury led the flag hoisting. The Agartala Congress Bhavan also marked the occasion with a ceremony led by senior leaders Asish Saha and Sudip Roy Barman, who paid tribute to the freedom fighters.
The All India Krishak Sabha celebrated the day at its state office, where Pabitra Kar and other leaders unfurled the National Flag. Similarly, at the Agartala Municipal Corporation office, MLA and Mayor Deepak Majumder hoisted the tricolour, reaffirming the collective spirit of unity and patriotism across Tripura.
